[adult swim] to air FMA Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Yes, shockingly, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim will be airing Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the revamp of the now famous and classic Fullmetal Alchemist, starting February 14th.

Awww…how awesome. I can spend the day of love sitting at home watching children mutilate the dead body of their mother in a futile attempt to bring her back to life! Nothing says love like equivalent exchange.   Wow that…sounded a lot effing grosser than I meant it.

The English cast list, according to LA Weekly and ANN’s update on the subject, looks to be on par with the original release with most of the primary characters retaining their original dub voices. I’m sort of irked by this.  I’m not super-hugely-over-the-top-batshit about Mignona’s Elric, and I never was.  He did a great job, but I prefer to watch him in crap like Air Gear where he can really let loose and have fun. I think the fan base for FMA really ruined it for me.  Just like Naruto…and Bleach, which I can’t stand.  But I’ll still watch the dub to see what it comes out like.  Here’s the cast list:

Edward Elric – Vic Mignogna
Winry Rockbell – Caitlin Glass
Roy Mustang – Travis Willingham
Lust – Laura Bailey
Envy – Wendy Powell
Gluttony – Chris Cason
Maes Hughes – Sonny Strait
Fuhrer King Bradley – Ed Blaylock
Riza Hawkeye – Colleen Clinkenbeard
Jean Havoc – Mike McFarland
Alphonse Elric – Maxey Whitehead
Scar – J Michael Tatum
Isaac McDougal – Bryan Massey

Call me biased, but I wanted Chris Ayres in there somewhere.   Nevermind that the  guy is in my comic…  Anywhoodle, there, fangirls.  You can get your drool on with Mustang once again.

Brotherhood is an interesting series. I was a huge fan of the pacing of the original, and honestly before the fandom got so fricking huge here, I thought it was one of the best edited and put together series of  the decade.  The story is brutal and honest, and makes you think very hard about morality of the human soul.  It…was just a lot fucking easier to do without some idiot in my ear bouncing up and down going “OMGILOVEVICHESTHEBESTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”  Brotherhood is a great series in its own right from what I’ve seen (Funimation.com has been streaming the episodes LEGALLY for ages now, airing them one week later here than the Japanese release date).  But it is also very different. If you haven’t checked it out and are afraid that it is just a reboot, rest assured, it isn’t. The “Hughes Event” happens by episode seven.

Now, if only they would dub Glass Mask…and the more that I think about it, I am subjecting you poor bastards to Air Gear next.  You have been warned.
